In a modern age of rapid technology, we are consistently bombarded with versions of the truth through the presentation of information. In an attempt to unmask the validity and stability of the communication of information, the artist will have three listening/recording stations where the viewer will listen to a fable, a news item or a description of one of the artist’s allegorical films and have the chance to then retell the story or passage. She will then pick a new version from the public for the next round of interpretations, to be then retold again each day. Reminiscent of the children’s game of “Telephone,” the final night will showcase the originals and the final versions, only three days later, to observe the fragility of interpretation and the subjective influence of middle mediators.
On display also will be a triptych of large format Chromogenic prints by the artist, “illustrating” each of the audio segments with a staged tableau photograph. Participants will have the opportunity to write a caption underneath each piece, addressing the delicate balance or lack thereof between imagery and text.
The artist will be on hand, visiting from New York City, for the duration of the show and in the gallery most days to talk and answer questions.
